Seeing Results from a New Regimen

It could take up to six months to begin seeing results with a new routine, but everything depends on your skin type, genetics, and the issues you’re trying to resolve.

If you’re keen on seeing changes, what’s most important is to stay consistent.

Adjusting to a New Skincare Routine

Skin sometimes needs time to acclimate to new products and during the first 2-3 months of a new routine, there can occasionally be minor breakouts, dry skin or peeling due to skin purging. This is totally normal. Skin purging is the skin’s temporary reaction to active ingredients that increase cell turnover, like retinol or acids.

To see optimal results, persist through this initial phase of purging if it happens. However, if you notice a painful rash or irritation, stop using a product immediately.

Remember that everyone’s skin is a little different, so it’s best to consult a dermatologist and always patch test products before using them for the first time.

How to Layer Our Serums (and how much to use)

Our serums were made for layering! It’s not necessary to wait a long time in between products. Once it feels like the last product has mostly absorbed into your skin, you can apply the next one.

You should spread a thin layer of each product onto your skin.

  • Clear Reveal Exfoliating Serum: Two pumps (size of a dime)
  • Vivid Protect Antioxidant Serum: One pump (size of a pea)
  • Bright-CE Eye Serum: One pump (size of a pea)

    All About Exfoliating with Acids

Acids might sound a little scary, but they are chemical exfoliants that efficiently (but gently!) remove dead skin cells to reveal the new skin underneath.

The acids in our Clear Reveal Serum work in different ways:

    • AHAs like mandelic acid help to smooth and brighten skin, addressing anti-aging and uneven skin tone.
    • BHAs like salicylic acid are great at decongesting pores.
    • PHAs like gluconolactone and lactobionic acid are the gentlest of the three and help to clear buildup on the surface of your skin.

We use all three types so that you get the best of all worlds. (Plus, hyaluronic acid to help keep skin protected and moisturized.)

Remember that it is possible to over-exfoliate. If you experience irritation, redness/inflammation, rash/bumps, or increased sensitivity to other products, you may be over-exfoliating.

We recommend exfoliating no more than 1-2 times per week. If you’ve been overdoing it, you should stop using any exfoliating or retinol-containing products until your skin recovers and consult a dermatologist.

Active Spotlight: Vitamin C, Power Antioxidant

Every day your skin is exposed to environmental factors like pollution, UV light, and blue light that can stress skin and accelerate aging.

An antioxidant serum is part of your first line of defense because it helps counteract the effects of environmental stressors. As an added benefit, antioxidants like vitamin C also help to fight fine lines and dullness, and improves skin bounce.

Incorporating a good antioxidant serum into your daily routine is key to a smooth, even, firm, and glowing complexion. (We recommend boosting your skin protection by always wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen!)

We formulated our antioxidant serum with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a form of vitamin C that we think has the best balance of stability and efficacy. Plus we added other antioxidants such as ferulic acid, which helps stabilize vitamin C.

Some products contain ascorbic acid, a form of vitamin C that is notoriously unstable. The molecule degrades when it’s exposed to light or heat, meaning it can go bad in the bottle before it ever reaches your skin.

All our serums come in airless containers so that the formula remains stable and potent. We also recommend storing products in a cool, dark place away from light and heat.

    The Importance of Sunscreen

Up to 90% of skin aging is caused by UV exposure. Additionally, ingredients like retinols and exfoliating acids can make skin even more sensitive to the sun.

Even inside, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen product with at least SPF 30. Use half a teaspoon for your face alone and be sure to reapply throughout the day.

When it comes to ingredients, quality and quantity both matter

Did you know that skincare brands can claim benefits from ingredients that are only present in trace amounts? Our key active ingredients are always present in concentrations that are clinically tested and recommended to show results so you can use them with confidence.

While our ingredient standards are among the strictest in the industry, skin science is constantly changing so we are always fine-tuning our Free-of List to strike the right balance between safety and efficacy.
